It is now possible to hold a ceremony at the Rectory since legislation was passed in November 2007. At the Rectory we can cater to onsite ceremonies and have held both outdoor and indoor ceremonies here. Preference for most couples is if possible to hold the ceremony outdoors on the lawn but just depending on what ceremony type you have you may find you are somewhat more restricted. For example a regulation of the HSE department in Ireland you can only hold these ceremonies inside a permananent structure so tents and marquees etc. do not seem possible. As it is not possible to perform these in your own home or private dwelling the Rectory is the next best thing. We can cater for these in the blue or red room depending on your numbers. Both rooms overlook the Rectory lawn and Glandore Harbour. Alternatively we have the opend to help you organise an outdoor ceremony with a recognised approved solenmniser with the option of a full religious element to include communion and full cloth attire or a simplified ceremony in casual suit attire. You choose what suits.

Rectory Blue Room Civil Ceremony Location

We recommend a smaller number of about 40 to include both seated and standing for this inside the blue room. We can cater to larger numbers in the red room or equally a combination of Red & Blue Room which open into each other with up to 80 seated with remainder standing. If you want to invite the full guests by all means do so but be aware it is likely not all guests would have full visibility of the ceremony due to imposing walls of the house if they are to be inside. Most couples are happy to proceed with this as if the weather is good the excess guests can stand outside the large open bay windows which gives the feeling that the ceremony was performed outside in a sense. We recommend an onsite ceremony start time of anywhere from 2-3pm.

Appendix 3 - Conditions to be attached to Grants of Approval for a Civil Ceremony
As above, preference for most couples is if possible to hold the ceremony outdoors on the lawn but just depending on what ceremony type you have you may find you are somewhat more restricted. (Legal Civil ceremony carried out by registrar of HSE department only performed indoors in a pre-approved permanent structure i.e. no marquees, pagodas etc. and typically only Monday to Friday with typically latest ceremony time of 3pm, whereas a registered religious practitioner can legally marry couples outdoors and can also carry out the ceremony on a weekend.) While harder to find religious practitioners who will carry out a ceremony outside of a church building we are familiar with a few and equally know some who are willing to marry divorcees (upon meeting legal requirements of course). One regular here is very open minded and can either do just the Wedding Ceremony Only or can include a Religious Mass as well. He can wear the full cloth or equally a simple suit. He just asks that there is some religious/spiritual acknowledgment by the couple.
If your wish is not to have a religious aspect for the ceremony but want to be outdoors the option to have a humanist ceremony is equally not restricted in terms of day or location. However currently unlike the religious practitioner who is able to give you full legal papers on the day a humanist is not able to provide legal documents but rather offer a ceremony and so you will have to carry out the legal aspect in a registry office in advance. For some this adds another day or possible location to go to in advance of the humanist ceremony. Depending on location and your requirements various seated options are available. If you would like to discuss your options further it would be great to meet in person to explain your options as see the venue.
We have found growing popularity with having an onsite ceremony since it’s legalised introduction in late 2007. The costs of an onsite ceremony when having the full day party package is fractional when compared to those of decorating a large building such as a church. The Rectory onsite ceremony costs include flowers, candles, setup, admin, free parking, red carpet to name a few. You have a beautiful seaside background for photographs whether outdoor or indoor. From a budget perspective it can literally save hundreds for couples. Others who have chosen a locations such as a woodland area, gardens etc. find the hire costs of equipment, chairs, décor etc. can equally exceed that of the Rectory’s. The advantage of having the ceremony onsite equally means you don’t have to worry about losing guests along the way from your previous destination. If you have an option for outdoor and find on the day the weather is inclement there is the peace of mind that an alternative indoor will be available and ready. You will need to make arrangements for the celebrant/registrar youself separately.
For those looking for a Civil Ceremony this must be held indoors as a restriction of the HSE department. An indoor ceremony is held in either the vibrant Red room or Blue room or potentially requirement to use both depending on numbers. The beautiful high ceilings in these rooms along with the tall Bay windows which afford great light to the house make the rooms light and airy. The house was purpose built as a home and we hope couples find the intimate setting very personal and inviting adding charm and character to their day. There are restrictions about what days of the week civil ceremonies call be held as the HSE are public officers they would not work on weekends. If you really want a ceremony and reception on a Saturday then the alternate option is the ceremony with the practitioneer previously mentioned or first have the legal ceremony performed in the registry office during the week and then hold a humanist ceremony or blessing on the weekend. If this is the case you are then free to hold the ceremony on the lawn. A Civil Partnership carries the same principle rules as a civil ceremony in terms of location. At this time only a member of the HSE department is able to perform a Civil Partnership.
We advise if you have the civil ceremony far away e.g. Cork Registry Office, or a distance greater than 1 hrs drive to have your ceremony at 12-12.30 pm to cater for guests who will need to check into accommodation in the area after the ceremony so they are not rushed. For a church ceremony wee would recommend this to be 12 noon due to the length of the ceremony.
