It is often speculated about how much time it takes to organise a wedding. Should it be 2 years, 1 year or possible to do in less than 6 months? From our experience here at the Rectory it can be any of the above. It's really down to the individual that you are.
Some like to take their time and make sure every little detail is planned to the last tee. They revel in the thought that another dress can be fitted on and more cakes can be tasted. Others want to get away from eager guests questions about plans and choose to opt for a short engagement. They feel too much time taken may often lead to more headaches as the choices become too much.
At the end of the day its really a matter of opinion. If you have specific dates in mind along with the location of the ceremony and the venue you may find you are a little restricted and require you start organising sooner rather than later. If you are fairly open to dates it can easier than you realise. We have certainly come across weddings where couples have arranged these in as little as 3-4 months. The main issue to get around is giving notice to the state of your intention to marry. In Ireland you need to give 3 months notice. There are certain circumstances where this can be less.
